This policy explains what personal information Finance Guide ("we", "us") collects when you visit financeguide.co.za, why, and your choices. We follow the Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (POPIA). Contact: hello@financeguide.co.za.

What we collect

Analytics (only if you accept cookies). Pages viewed, how you arrived, rough location (country or city), device and browser type, collected through Google Analytics 4. We don't collect your name or ID number this way.
Newsletter. If you subscribe, we store your email address and when you signed up, using our email provider (Kit). Every email has an unsubscribe link.
Emails you send us. If you write to us, we keep your message and email address so we can reply.
Feedback buttons. "Was this helpful?" votes are counted anonymously in analytics.
Ads (only if you accept cookies). If we show Google ads, Google may use cookies to show and measure ads. You can change your ad settings at Google's ad settings page.

We never ask for, or want, your ID number, banking details, tax number or financial account information. Please don't send them to us.

Cookies and your choices

When you first visit, we ask whether you accept analytics and advertising cookies. If you reject them, analytics and ad cookies stay off. You can change your choice at any time with the Privacy choices link in the footer.

Why we process your information

Consent: analytics, advertising cookies and the newsletter.
Legitimate interest: keeping the site secure and answering your messages.

Who processes it

Google (Analytics and AdSense), Kit (newsletter) and our web host. These are operators that process information on our behalf under their own terms.
Some providers store information outside South Africa (for example, in the United States). We use providers that are bound by agreements or laws giving protection similar to POPIA.

We don't sell your personal information.

How long we keep it

Analytics data: up to 14 months.
Newsletter: until you unsubscribe.
Emails: as long as needed to deal with your message, then deleted within two years.

Your rights

Under POPIA you can ask to see the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, object to processing, and withdraw consent at any time. Email hello@financeguide.co.za and we'll respond within 30 days.

If you're not happy with our response, you can complain to the Information Regulator (South Africa).

Children

Finance Guide is written for adults. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children under 18.

Changes

If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top. Significant changes will be announced on the site.
