SASSA Grant Amounts 2026: Older Persons, Child Support and Every Other Grant

Short answer: since 1 April 2026, the older persons grant is R2,400 a month, or R2,420 if you're 75 or older. The disability and care dependency grants are R2,400, and the child support grant is R580 per child. The foster child grant rose to R1,290 in April and R1,300 from October 2026. These amounts are set in Government Notice R.7287, published on 23 March 2026 (Government Notice R.7287 via Acts Online; SAnews).
Only use official channels. SASSA never asks for a fee to apply for or "fast-track" a grant. Check your status and payment dates through SASSA itself, not through social media links.

The Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant stays at R370 a month, according to OurPower's 2026 grant summary and reports of the Budget announcement (Bizcommunity).
How much did grants go up?
- Older persons, disability and care dependency: +R80 a month (about 3.4%)
- War veterans: +R80
- Child support and grant-in-aid: +R20 a month (about 3.6%)
- Foster child: +R40 in April, then +R10 in October
The increases were announced in the Budget Speech on 25 February 2026 (SAnews). With electricity prices up about 9% for municipal customers (Eskom; see our electricity guide) and medical aid up 7% to 9% for 2027 (see our medical aid guide), grant increases are smaller than many households' cost increases.
When grants are paid
SASSA pays grants as early in the month as possible, staggered over three days. Usually older persons are paid first, then disability grants, then children's grants. Dates are moved when they fall on a weekend, a public holiday, a Monday or the 1st of the month (SAnews). For example, in April 2026 older persons were paid on 2 April, disability grants on 7 April and children's grants on 8 April.
